San Jacinto is the battle which resulted in Texas becoming independent from Mexico. Although Mexico City refused to recognize Texan independence after the battle, it was nevertheless an important turning point in the history of Texas.
Briefly, Santa Anna was beaten and the Mexicans exiled him to Cuba. Texas became a country for the next ten years. Although not recognized by Mexico, neither did Mexico conquer Texas, which later decided to become a state in the US. The Battle of San Jacinto was the decisive battle which enabled Texas to rule itself rather than being ruled by Mexico.
