The Suns light only shines so far. Consider if you will a torch the closer to it you are the brighter it appears but its actually luminosity does not change. The same principle hold for the Sun. The closer to it you are the brighter it appears. Interstellar Space is enormous, all the those stars you see in the night sky are Suns of a kind, yet they are that far away that they cannot light up the night sky like our Sun does during the day.
