Why is there so much hate against homosexuals?

Usually, people hate something because they're afraid of it. When it comes to sex, there's an additional problem -- most of us were taught it was "wrong" to talk about sex. That means a lot of people don't know much about sex, and a lot of what they think they know is wrong.

Since somewhere around the 10th century in Europe, a lot of incorrect information has been spread about homosexuals. For example, a lot of people think homosexuals attack children. We don't, of course. Homosexuals began to "come out of the closet" in the 19th century. Ever since, we've been trying to tell folks the truth about us so they won't be afraid.

Of course, a lot of people don't hate homosexuals. They merely disagree with homosexuality as a behavior while having no malice towards those they see as being trapped in something that is very difficult to escape. They do not believe it is something immutable as many have portrayed it to be. Many with such feelings believe in supporting gay people without supporting what they do. Those who try to keep such a moderate position often get villianized. Then there are the many who are totally indifferent to gayness and neither support it nor bash it. So there is a wide spectrum of beliefs and reactions on this topic.
