Bangladesh (east) & West Bengal was once a combined state (State of Bengal). After partition of Bengal, the part falling in India became West Bengal, (which still retains the name), while East Bengal (rather east Pakistan) came to be known as Bangladesh, after it gained freedom from Pakistan. The west Bengal lies on the east portion of India and must not be confused as a misnomer.
