Here are a few reasons you want to "maintain" your basement:

  • to keep the walls from deteriorating from water, or termites
  • to protect the contents from being damaged by water
  • to protect against insects invading
  • to protect from intruders from coming in through damaged windows or doors
  • to protect your investment in your home, and therefore it's value

Many people remodel their basement after damage has been done by a natural disaster. Other reasons include making use of the space, having an area to use for a certain activity (like watching movies), or just because they want to.

There are many reasons one may choose to remodel a basement. First off, it can add great value to a home, if one is trying to rent out their place or sell it. Also, if the basement is not really being used for anything, you can make it into an extra bedroom or entertaining room. The basement is typically cooler in temperature than the rest of the house, so it could be a great place to remodel to use in the summer months. Other reasons could be if there are problems with the carpet, mold, out-of-style decorating, etc. Remodeling may be very pricey, or it could be reasonable; it all just depends on what one chooses to do.
