Why won't John Deere lawn tractor PTO switch not engage for cutting?

Could be the pto/drive shaft not connected or engaging, or the belt could be off. Pivot the wheels sideways, drop and remove the deck and remove the cover panels to replace the belt. Belt is on, but, PTO drive does not engage (does not turn-on).

∙ 11y agoI think the switch doesn't work because it's broken. The same thing happened on my tractor, and there seem to be a lot of after-market switches available. So....

∙ 9y agoThere is a switch on all JOHN DEERe riders under the seat. If you are not sitting or if the switch is bad it will not start.
