What i would do first is to check the primary electrical system for any loose conections, battery alternator and starter. If they appear to be ok. Then check the primary system with a code tester. If you do not have one get
one. If you do not feel your confident to do yourself take to a certified mechanic. My guest is that your starter is going bad. good luck!

The service engine did not shut your car down, It was the part that turned the light on, (not the computer monitoring system) You need to determine what turned the light on that's very likely what turned your car off.

It should come on for a three second bulb check and then go out.
You have to fix the cause of the code that turned the light on. It can than be reset with a scan tool. You have to fix the cause of the code that turned the light on. It can than be reset with a scan tool.

A Dodge Ram will have a check engine light appear when the engine needs to be serviced. You can reset this light by following the directions in your manual or by having your mechanic do it.
When a check engine light comes on, it means that there are issues with the engine. It gets turned off when the person resolves the problem that caused it to turn on.
It is not supposed to be on when engine is running unless there is a problem.
A flashing check engine light is an indication of an engine misfire.
