Well because he has a butt itch, simple

AnswerIt can also be that the dog has feces still on his butt and is trying to get it off. AnswerWell, to be blunt, dogs have anal glands that sometimes can become "impacted" or blocked. It causes severe itching and burning. You may have to take the dog to a vet for him to relieve the pressure. It's pretty nasty and makes a horrible smell, so it's worth the money to have someone else do it! But at least the dog will feel better. AnswerIt's more than likely the anal sacs are full and need to be emptied. This usually occurs naturally when the dog poops, but sometimes they need a little help. If not careful it can become infected and cause problems. Take your pet to the vet. The money is worth it, and your pet will feel a lot better. AnswerIt'll be the glands or possibly worms.

== == * His/her anal sacks (located around the anus) need to be expressed. You can take your dog to a groomer or to a vet and they will do this for you. The sacks get itchy and inflamed when they are full. (**note...the liquid that comes out is foul smelling.) == == * Dogs that have worms can also skid their little butts on the floor or carpet. Please see your vet for either.
This could mean 1 of 2 things, either your dog has worms or your dogs anal glands need to be squeezed. A lot of times when dogs scoot there butt across the floor, they are squeezing their glands themselves.
Her anal glands are clogged and need to be cleaned. You should take her to the vet or a dog groomer.

This is often a sign of an anal gland issue. There's a gland right by a dog's anus, and sometimes it can become infected, or impacted, and the dog feels uncomfortable. It could also be a sign of worms/parasites.

In either case, it's best to have the vet check up on them.

The main reason that dogs "scoot" across a floor is that they are attempting to express fluid from their anal glands. These glands, located under the tail, contain a liquid with a strong scent that dogs use to mark their territory. When the glands are full, they can cause discomfort, so the animal tries to squeeze out some of the fluid in order to relieve the pain. Dogs might also scoot to clean their anal or genital areas, or to relieve the discomfort of a worm infestation. Note: Small dogs may be unable to express their anal glands; this requires a simple procedure by a vet or groomer.

Dogs scoot sometimes because of being itchy, from worms, but most likely it needs it's anal glands emptied. These are 2 glands right inside of his butt. These build up fluid that is supposed to be expelled little by little, but with the un-natural diets that we feed out animals, everything doesn't always work how it should, much like us. It is a very common problem, but an easy fix. You should take care of this as, besides being very uncomfortable and even painful for him, left untreated it can lead to it building up pressure and basically busting out through the skin. It then leaves a hole beside his anus that you HAVE to get repaired surgically. It's a messy surgery and the whole thing is very painful for him. And you can imagine the risk for complications such as infections, being the area and the fluids involved. Basically, it's better for you and him to just do the maintenence. THE GOOD NEWS: it doesn't even require a trip to the vet! You can easily learn to do it yourself, or if you are uncomfortable with that, groomers will do it for you.... most likely a lot cheaper than your vet, and if you ask nicely, will prob even teach you to do it.

For the same reason we wipe our bottoms after pooping. They want to feel more comfortable. Or maybe they itch. Be sure to have your dogs anal glands checked at every annual checkup.

Can manually emptying anal sacs hurt your dog?

Full or blocked anal sacs are very uncomfortable for your dog. That's one of the things that will cause the dog to scoot across the floor, trying to get some relief. It's probably more dangerous for your dog to not have them emptied than the actual manual emptying of the sacs.
