Maybe it is too cold, and it is trying to keep warm. Does the instruction manual say to provide a separate heat lamp at one end to raise the temperature significantly? I bet it does. If you have such a lamp, you could try putting a red bulb in it so it is warmer radiation than a white one. Maybe you have one, but the tank is too tall for the heat to reach the bottom of the tank. Check online to see what the ideal temperature should be in that tank and get a thermometer and measure it.

Red eared sliders hide because they are frightened. If you just got your turtle then it is probably still uncomfortable, but don't worry, eventually it'll get over it. It is also their instinct to hide when they are frightened, no matter how pointless hiding would be. Handle it more and play loud music so that it gets used to noise and it will eventually get less shy.

55 gallon reef aquarium in which you have had 3 pipefish they have all disappeared without a trace do pipefish bury themselves in the bottom the bottom substrate is crushed coral.?

No, seahorses do not bury themselves. Chances are they have died and have been consumed by something in your aquarium. If there is rock it is possible they are hiding in the nooks and crannies. However, many pipefish species are difficult to maintain, so in all likelihood they have perished.
