Will an Xbox controller work with an Xbox 360?

First, the good news! The Xbox 360's sleek, wireless Gibson Les Paul controller that made its debut with Guitar Hero III has been confirmed by the wonderful folks at Shacknews to be fully compatible with the upcoming PC version of Activision's rhythmic rocker. It's not "officially" supported by develo-porter Aspyr, mind you, but you'll find it works just fine for setting those frets on fire -- all you need is the Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver.

The bad news (don't be shocked, we alluded to this in the first paragraph!) is that Guitar Hero III's PC variant, which releases November 12th, already comes packaged with a guitar, namely the Gibson X-plorer which accompanied Guitar Hero II on the Xbox 360. It's uglier, it's wired and simply won't let you play the game from ridiculous and impractical distances! It seems the Gibson Les Paul is only a worthwhile option if you desire a second controller or if you can track down a standalone version of the game. Can't you help out with this, Steam?

Yea it will because the Rockband 2 guitar works for rock band and it can go the other way around and I have a gh2 guitar and it works for gh1 gh2 gh3 ghwt and will for gh4 so hope that answers your qustion!

wow! of all the ways to prove ones idiocy. to clarify, the xbox and 360 both use usb interfaces however the original xbox used a custom connector with an extra wire to provide timing signals for the light-gun controllers. as for wether the guitar will work or not, i would imagine not, becausde the original xbox has a driver built in that looks for a pretty specific controller configuration and when it sees the extra button [(X) dash button] its going to pretty much frak out and think youre trying to use non M$ approved controllers. same thing as trying to use a generic usb hub to add controllers to an xbox, it doesnt see the hub as M$ certified and wont use it. sorry for any mispellings im half asleep but i fealt the need to comment on the other guys completely wrong answer

Yes it will. I don't know why someone would say no because I own both games and use the Guitar Hero guitar on RockBand all the time. But the RockBand guitar won't work on Guitar Hero.

No, you have to be using an Xbox 360 controller for the Xbox 360. Original xbox controllers will not work on any system but the original xbox.
