If your dog has an allergic reaction you can treat it with human medicine usually with good results. Try Piriton or something similar but make sure you lower the dose to reflect the difference in weight, I give my pugs a quarter tablet when they have an allergic reaction and it works well.

∙ 12y agoFirst get rid of the fleas on the dog and in the dog's bedding and carpets or furniture in the area where the dog spends time.
Depending on the severity of the allergy, you could treat it with Benadryl, if your vet approves, and gives you the proper dosage of liquid or capsule to use for your dog. If it is really severe, the dog may need topical cortisone or special shampoos for the skin and/or Prednisone (or another systemic steroid) as an anti-inlammatory until you get the fleas under control and the skin healed. You will have to get the Prednisone from your vet.
Without proper training, the calculations for determination of proper dosage of human preparations of medicines for use with a dog get be difficult. They are based on the strength of the drug and the dog's weight, often calculated in milligrams per kilogram of weight of the dog. However, in small dogs especially, the conformation and ratio of breed skeletal bone size and muscle/fat tissue, etc. can make a difference in dosage. Your vet should be the one to determine the proper dose for your dog. Don't give human meds to dogs without talking to your vet first. Better safe than sorry.

∙ 11y agoNothing - dogs can have a condition called atopic dermatitis that has a similar cause as hay fever or seasonal Allergies in humans, but the treatment is very different as are the presenting clinical signs.
Dogs with allergies tend to have skin problems - itchiness, rashes, lost fur, secondary skin infections - rather than the sneezing/watery eyes/coughing that humans show. Treatment is based upon allergen avoidance in most cases.

Man’s best friend can also share one of man’s worst enemies - allergies.
