First and for most you should contact your vet. If you don't have the money, contact your local shelter they may offer discounted services. Also, check with your local pet store, they may have a low cost clinic that come once a month. I have found them very helpful (and cheap) in the past.
- Does your dog have fleas?
- Have they come in contact with a new animal?
- Any environmental changes?
- Food changes?
- You can give your dog benadryl. (example: My vet recommended for me to give my 50lb dog 2 benadryls Twice a day. This was for ear infection and also for skin Allergies)
- Oatmeal bath to soothe the skin. Tea Tree oil or ointment is a soothing cover all as well.
- If you can get a hold of Dermasoothe shampoo for dogs and cats. bathe your dog once a week with it.
Background: I've had animals my entire life. I used to work as a vet tech assistant. I currently have 2 dogs, 1 cat, 1 horse. Both my dogs have mild skin and/or ear allergies. I have been there and paid the $300 for one visit to see a dog dermatologist (located in Tampa, FL)
