In western Russia ultranationalist and the Soviet Union are against each other and are were 1500 nukes at stake. Meanwhile, Sgt. John "Soap" MacTavish was transfer to the SAS camp at Credenhill, UK. After practicing his aiming at the firing range, Captian Price wants to see him practice the cargo ship raid, impressed by Soap's skills he was sent to come along the cargo ship raid.

After landing on the cargo ship, Captian Price, Soap, Gaz, and several other SAS members started securing the ship searching for a nuclear weapon. The ship was then almost immediately attacked by MiGs causing catastrophic damage to the hull of the ship. The SAS team makes for an escape to the helicopter up top, they survive.

Meanwhile somewhere in the Middle East, President Yasir Al-Fulani was captured and was sentenced to be executed. He was dragged into in a car and dropped off at the execution site. At the execution site, Al-Fulani is tied to a pole and Imran Zakhaev hands Khaled Al-Asad a desert edge which Al-Asad uses to execute Al-Fulani on national television.

Later the SAS found out that yasir al fulani was executed by khaled, three hours later code name nikolai will also be execute in russia. The team later moves on to the village then to meet Russian loyalist.Attacked the village quick and successfully got nikolai to a helecopter.Nikolai ask have the Us forces began to capture Al-Asad, Captian Price says it start in three more hours, but nikolai knew the US forces wont be able to capture him alive.

Khaled Al-Asad was reported Tobe seen in a television brodcast building, the americians attacked the building but there was no sign of Al-Asad. Then were to aid the other americians fighting the separationist. The USMC later push to the capital city where Al-Asad was makiing his last stand. Soon later was repoted that there was a nuke in the city, they make it to a helicopter and escape but then a anti-aircraft missile hit a friendly attack helicopter, the team tried to help the pilot of the helocopter escape. Suddenly the nuke explodes and raining destruction to everything near-by. Paul Jackson survives the initial blast, albeit with major injuries, he soon dies.

The SAS soon fine where Al-Asad was hiding; a safe house in Azerbaijan. His troops were murdering citizens in the small village. The SAS attack the troops in the villlage and fought through heavy resistance; including a armored vehicle. Khaled was found in a small house at the other end of the village. The SAS capture Al-Asad. Captain Price interrogates Al-Asad, in the middle of the interrogation, Al-Asad's cell phone rings. Captian Price answers the phone, and the finds out that the caller is Zakhaev. Price disconnects the call, drops the phone and executes Al-Asad.

Captian Price has a flashback of himself as a Lieutenant on a assignation mission in Chernobyl, Ukraine, he is under the command of Captian MacMillan. They sneak closers to the cite where they expect a deal between Imran and another persona. They approach a convention and succesfully sneak past them. They finnally approach the city of pripyat and then the hotel.

From the city of hotel, they observe Imran Zakhaev in the convention.captian macmillian reminds price to observe the wind directions and the earth's correolis effects.price then pulls the trigger but due to bad timing, the bullet hits Zakhaev's arm intead of his head.they thought imran zakhaev will soon lter dies by lost of blood. But then Pirce relized that they failed 15 years later.

Back in present day time,The ultranationalist surrounds the village while a SAS members set bombs on the perimeter of the village. The SAS started defending the village at a nearby church. The SAS bombers mistaken The SAS for a larger force, restore motor force for the enemy instead.Soap quickly hand a minigun on a crashed helicopter and the SAS has to be pushed uphill to the barn(it is not the place where the team finds al asad,al asad can be found in another house if the player go search the barn before searching all the house in the village.)

They later get to the LZ and the farm while they hold off enemy forces.Enemy tanks started advancing towards the SAS and soap again, quickly grabs a javlin in the barn and took the enemy out.Although the LZ suppose to be the farm, the escape helicopter says the area is "too hot" and the SAS had to pushed through enemy lines to get to the LZ near the gas station.
