A region unified by its physical attributes. Three general factors have a great bearing on the character of any region: latitude, relief and structure, and location. These work together to form regions which may be characterized according to topography, climate, and vegetation.

A Natural region is one which is distinguished by its natural features of geography and usually more importantly, geology. The natural ecology of the region is likely to be significant but one of these factors tends to influence the others.
The term is particularly useful where there is no corresponding or coterminous official region. The Fens of eastern England and the Pays de Bray in Normandy, are examples of this. Others might include an upland massif of acidic rock or The Burren, in Ireland.
