A quantitative expression of the manner in which a microphone, amplifier, loudspeaker, or other component or system performs its intended function. A linear response means that the output signal is exactly proportional to the input signal for the entire range of frequencies over which the device is intended to operate. A logarithmic response means that the output signal is a logarithmic function of the input signal. The frequency response of a device, often presented as a curve on a graph, is the deviation over the frequency range from the response at some selected frequency, such as 1000 Hz.
