Nationalism : it gave birth to hate among the states. Many people were eager to be soldiers, and made it very hard for governments to make a reasonable choice. Even Russia (which had many domestic issues to be solved) and Britain (people never favored a huge government) decided to go to war. Plus, nationalism lead people to give their government more power and control over them.

Imperialism : competition for more colony eventually lead powerful states into a serious conflict. Rising powers, especially Germany, wanted more colonies. But the world was already divided by old empires like Britain and France. So if Germany wanted to grow bigger, the battle was inevitable.

Militarism : At early 20th century, war was thought as a noble thing to do. Due to social Darwinism, violence between states was thought as a natural thing (almost a noble thing), and only strong states deserve to survive. Therefore, most Europeans were very supportive when the 1st world war began.

These three political, economical, and military systems were born out of competition, thrived through competition, and helped set the stage for further competition.

How did imperialism nationalism and militarism contribute to ww1?

Nationalism clearly caused Americans to object to having their ships torpedoed and to foreign powers (Germany) going around making offers of US territory to Mexico. The others didn't really figure much. Americans weren't paricularly militaristic, they's had an imperialist binge in 1898 but it had pretty much blown over by 1917, and the US had no alliances with Britain or anyone else. As for ancestry, it was the Irish and German Americans who were most influenced by this, and with them its influence was against entering the war. However, to answer the broader question "how did those things cause world war 1?" European imperialism lead to the competition between Britain and the Germans and set the stage for an all out conflict.Alliances were a more direct cause, because when an ally of Germany attacked an ally of another power, they were driven to confront each other. Britain (like the US) had no alliances at this time, but could not ignore a European conflict which might lead to one power dominating the continent - an intolerable situationThe afore mentioned competition between those two European powers also caused a build up of military forces (especially naval) which intesified the tensions between the two contries, and was a major factor in fueling the war.

Is Barack Obama against or with imperialism?

It depends on what you mean by "imperialism." The United States is a super-power and it certainly has tried to be a major player in world affairs, often imposing its views on other countries. It is not the only nation to have done this. President Obama believes the United States should continue being an important player on the world stage, but he does not favor invading other countries or forcing them to do things the way Americans do them.
