Lenin
Lenin argued that imperialism was the highest stage of capitalism, where monopolies and finance capital dominated, leading to the exploitation and oppression of colonies. He believed that imperialism would ultimately lead to the downfall of capitalism and the emergence of socialism. By integrating imperialism into Marx's analysis of capitalism, Lenin saw his view as an extension rather than a contradiction of Marxism.
Vladimir Lenin believed that imperialism is the highest form of capitalism. This was one of his additions that helped create the Marxist-Leninist part of world communism. With that said, Nikita Khrushchev made it clear ( to people that adhered to Lenin's viewpoint ) that by virtue of its predatory nature, imperialism cannot rid itself of its innate position that the way to solve contradictions in the world is by war.

Edward W. Said has written: 'Israel,al-Iraq,al-wilayat al-mutaheda' 'Culture and imperialism' -- subject(s): Colonies, Imperialism, Colonization 'Orientalism' -- subject(s): History, Study and teaching
Imperialism is when a nation colonizes another nation or territory. The Europeans believed that imperialism was important because they said that it was their responsibility to civilize those who they believed were inferior to them and because they wanted the other nations' resources.
It's difficult to place a positive spin on Imperialism. If one stretches long enough it can be said that to a certain degree it helped to modernize certain colonies. But the cost was very high.
