Why do letters get shaped like they are?
It is because of the amount of angles in it. It used to be like 1, there is 1 angle in it, at the top (back then they didn't have the little _ thing at the bottom). The numbers looked a lot stranger back them because of how they made it from the amount of angles. I guess a bunch of people slacked off and then that started a trend to the numbers we have today.
