1986 jeep Comanche 2.5 liter getting gas and spark but will only run if you spray starting fluid and hold your hand over the carb then it dies?

Sounds like no gas is getting to the carb. eaither the choke is done or and most likely the fuel pump is done. The fact it will start with a shot of sure shot and then dies out usually means there was no additional fuel to burn hence, the fuel pump is not pumping. You can also check to see if the choke is pumping by havingsomeone continously pump the gas then watch the primer see if there is any gas. I had an old For Ranger do the same thing.
