There are only a few bolts holding the fan on the engine, pull it out then unbolt the clutch from the fan, replace the part and then bolt the fan back on to the engine.
If the fan clutch is locked up it will rob some horse power from the engine as the rpms increase.
Low coolant, bad thermostat, clogged radiator, bad waterpump, bad headgasket, etc
bad piston rings.
When the clutch fan locks up it makes a sound like a propeller on a airplane and the more you rev the engine the louder it gets.
If the fan runs more than it needs to to keep the engine cool then it is robbing a bit of power to spin the fan.
Could be a bad ignition switch....

fuse, bad turn siginal switch, bad bulbs, bad bulb socket, bad brake light switch mounted under the dash at the brake peddle.
I have a 1988 s-15 with the same peoblem. Ignition Manifold Air Temperature switch appears to be bad. Don.
