1989 Ford F150 4x4 Lariat Check engine light was coming on for a few minutes rpms were low and half power When light went off back to normal Now light on always with half power and low idle.?

i have a 1989 Ford f150 xlt lariat, and my truck was acting the same way the only thing i can think of is to add the stp gas tretment it took away the high idle and my light stays off now i cant say it works for everyone but same truck same problem and it was a 2-3 dollar fix so its not a waist of that much money if it doesnt work i hope you get your truck running strong and back on the road, anymore questions email me at ck2289a@aol.com my name is chris ive been driving my 89 f150xlt lariat for 10 years so i know her like the back of my hand
