The E 350 tows 2000 pounds. That's why they call it a one ton.

Not true. Look at decal inside door frame. That tells you the maximum vehicle weight and should not be exceeded.

The "one-ton" is mostly a name and not really a capacity. You must know how heavy your vehicle is and the difference between the Maximum Gross Vehicle weight and the actual weight is how much you can CARRY in the van.

Towing is limited by your hitch, your rear springs, and your tires. Generally you will CARRY 10% to 20% of the trailer's total (maximum gross) weight on the hitch of the van.

My van can bear about 1,900 lbs and be under the MGVW. Yours probably can do the same, but everything must be in good condition. Heavier loads can be moved for short distances at low speeds, but should not be your usual habit.

Complicating things is whether you have a standard length or extended van. Age and condition of the springs and tires figure heavily in successful towing. Check the rating of the tires and be sure they are inflated properly as well.
