Im taking a shot in the dark. Starter fluid mot ALWAYS works for anyhing. From here, im thinking a dead fuel pump, OR blown fues/relay TO a fuel pump. I know on my 98, when I turn the ignnition on, you can hear the pump activate {an autible buzz for 2 seconds}. IM guessing you have the CPI injection. So you can see if the injectors are literally injecting into the intake manifold. And finally a weak charging system can also be the culpurate. Ive left out the discharged battery b/c you said it runs on starter fluid. Erik
Either the battery has a dead cell and is pulling the others down after sitting for awhile or there is a drain on the battery from something that is on. Something such as a glove box, trunk, under hood, or dome light. If the battery is over 3 years old, or has been discharged many times, suspect the battery needs replacing.
Starter, Gas, Battery, check these first...
Make certain the cables from the battery to the starter and the body are good...may be a starter check out your local library for a shop manual and the checks to make.. d
Perhaps injectors are leaking and need to be reprimed
There can be many reasons why a 1997 Chevy Tahoe will not start after sitting for three days. Reasons include a dead battery, a bad starter, a bad alternator, a loose wire, and no gas.
Take the battery to an auto parts store and have it load tested. If it checks ok, then clean and take a close look at all connections. If it still will not start, suspect the starter or starter relay. cheaper yet, give the starter a solid whack a couple times and then try and start it, sometimes they "set up" after sitting awhile.
Youhave a short in the system. Could be the starter or a bare wire.
most likely tha starter is bad or the power to the starter is bad
Two main reasons:when it's discharged, it's "empty", like a gas tank that's gone dry. With nothing in the battery, you can no longer run anything from it. Kinda pointless.batteries don't do too well sitting around empty. It can take damage making accept less of a charge then next time you try to make it ready for use. With less energy inside, it won't be able to power whatever it is you want to run from it as long as a fully healthy battery would.
Is the battery/alt warning light on? if they didn't disconnect the battery while the starter was being replaced and they accidently shorted the battery cable out it could have damaged the regulator of the alternator some of the Delphi regulators are very sensitive to that, but if it tested normal at the parts place, does it run down while driving or while sitting?
Check the battery mine 1995 Z71 did the same thing changed starter still did same thing finally was told to check the battery after it sets awhile battery does not have enough juice too kick the starter in I had battery checked sure enough on cell on battery was dead bought new one not a problem since.
I would guess the battery. If your radio, air, etc will still work and the engine will just not turn, it may be your starter
