NOx failures actually mean there is too much heat in the combustion chambers when the gas is 'burning'. Its either too lean or its got too much timing in it. Both will cause a lean (hot) condition. A 1992 has an OBD 1 system, so I'm thinking maybe O2 sensor, verify by doing a scan. The EGR doesn't show up on an OBD1 scan, make sure it works! The manual will tell you how to check the timing.
If there are no other problems and the vehicle is failing the NOX emissions test, it's probably running too lean. Check the EGR valve, fuel pressure and the Oxygen sensor.
i would like to know the answer, as I'm buying a 93 Lexus that has failed on the NOX ANY IDEA?......
NOx in the emission system would be the engine temperature burning to hot there could be a couple of problems but most of the NOx problems are a failing egr valve it circulates air in the engine and exhaust to help keep he engines running temperature down i would say replace the egr valve and your set
The emissions are mainly nitrogen, carbon dioxide, NOx, water vapour and unburned hydrocarbons
They become oxides of nitrogen or the emission NOx, this is controlled by the EGR valve to lower combustion temperatures and lower the NOx gas wich contributes to phot chemical smog, the stuff you see in the air.
Ya its possible to blend rubbing alcohol with diesel by 25%.It give good performance and reduction in NOx emission.....
A. B Nunn has written: 'NOx emission factors for wood-fired boilers' -- subject(s): Fuelwood, Boilers, Pollution
The primary source of emission leading to the formation of surface ozone as a pollutant is the release of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from human activities, such as fossil fuel combustion, industrial processes, and vehicle emissions. These emissions react with sunlight to form ozone, particularly in areas with high levels of NOx and VOCs.
nox is from exhaust temps too high or a cat. convertor breakdown.
most test hydrocarbons, co2 & oxides of nitroge (nox). Specs vary with vehicle, year make, model & engine size
An Emission system can include many things depending on the vehicle. The carbon canister/purge valve- prevents Hydro carbon vapors from escaping from the fuel system. EGR system helps lower NOx levels, catalytic converters - helps converter crbon monoxide and HCs into carbon dioxide and water thru a chemical reaction. On diesels they now have Diesel exhaust fluid which helps lower NOx levels.
Kara Nox is 5' 4".
