if it's an automatic you can replace it with any accent automatic transmission from 1995 to 1999, you will have to change the neutral safety switch on the transmission on some trans. cheers!!!!!
The transmission is broken. Take it to a shop.
Your trans fluid could be low or your trans is on it's way out the door. Some cars, reverse is the first to go.Good luck.If the fluid is not low, drop the pan replace the filter and put a trans additive in when you fill it up after the trans service. The best additive is called trans-x.
* cause it needs to be put in drive to go forward
There are several things that can cause your 1995 Chevy Cavalier transmission not to go into drive or reverse. The most common cause is a lack of transmission fluid. A broken shifting fork will also cause the problem.
A neutral safety switch makes sure that the gear select is either in neutral, or park, befor a car is allowed to start. No, it will not stop a trans for allowing you to put it in reverse.
I am having the same problem on my 94. It will go into drive but that is it.
Left side (drivers side) of transmission.
To change the clutch on a 1995 Hyundai Accent, first, safely lift and secure the vehicle. Disconnect the battery, remove the transmission by unbolting it from the engine and disconnecting the necessary components, including the clutch cable and drive shafts. Once the transmission is out, unbolt the old clutch from the flywheel, install the new clutch, and then reassemble everything in reverse order. Be sure to torque all bolts to the manufacturer's specifications and reconnect the battery once the job is complete.
You have either a speed sensor issue,(located at the back of the trans. above hte right drive axle where it comes out of the trans.), or more likely the speedo itself is broken. The plastic drive gears in the speedo get noisy and eventually break
I am fairly certain that it is located in the rear end of the trans where the yoke from the drive line enters and is reading revolutions of your drive line...yes even if front wheel drive.
Lock up torque converter prolem.
