its called slipped gears. your gears are old and not responding fast enough so they slip and your truck makes a big clunk sound when it changes right? mine does the same thing. look into an overhaul (about $800-$1000) or a rebuilt, but that's more expensive and could cause more problems later if the trannie doesnt match the specs of YOUR Tahoe...their all different
