I have the same Jeep and had the same problem its the clock spring thats broke you need to replace the steering colum or you can go and get the codes reset on it you can try to reset it your self disconnect your battery cables over night and it should reset your codes and your airbag light should go off mine did

I don't know the answer but it might help if you specify Chrysler or Toyota transmission. If you have a 6 cyl 93 Grand Cherokee without an overdrive button on the dash then its a Toyota transmission If you have the button it's a Chrysler unit. Good luck.
