The belt has worn on the edges and creates friction which causes squealing. Also, sometimes when a belt is cold it will squeal.

Q: 1996 Mazda 626 when you turn the car on there is a squealing noise that seems to come from a certain belt I sprayed some belt lubrication on it and so far it hasn't squealed but why is it squealing?
