System airbound and needs to be purged
Low coolant? Bad thermostat? Heater core plugged or airbound? Heat control cable not working?
You can't fix it till you know what's wrong with it.
Low coolant? Bad thermostat? Heater core restricted, plugged or airbound? Temperature control not working? Water pump not circulating coolant?
i have no heat in my 1994 mercury grand marquis. what could cause the heat to stop working
The CKP is located on the bell housing and is covered by a shield to protect it from exhaust manifold heat.
There is no rear heat system, it is A/C only. If only the rear A/C system is affected, it's probably a control or blower issue, or the rear orifice is plugged. Otherwise, the rear A/C is connected to the same system as the front.
More likely the temp sensor has gone bad than the gauge is actually bad.
heating element stopped working
Did you put the thermostat in backwards? I would check to see where the steam is coming from. I had to change out small hoses for the same problem with mine.
