Check connections and alignment of the neutral safety switch, located under the dash on the steering column. That switch is what controls the reverse lights. To check operation: With the car engine *off*, have a friend stand so he can see the rear lights, and run the gear selector thru it's full range of motion, chances are the rev. lights will come on, probably when it's in neutral.
