Replace your ECTS. Also make sure the fan works and all fuses to it are good. fan should come on at 3/4 per the guage. normal operating temps are 1-2mm above 1/4 per the gauge.

Yes, but is may require the use of the intake and exhaust manifolds from your 1997 engine. The headers to be reused will need to be milled flat by a machine shop to ensure they are flat and will seal properly. I have a 1994 SC2 running a 1998 DOHC engine from a wrecked SL2, runs like a champ, but I did have to reuse my 1994 manifolds. Good Luck

The Saturn S-series (SL1, SL2, SC1, SC2, SW1, SW2) were not designed with cabin air filters, thus do not have them. There is no cabin air filter to replace.

How can you tell whether your 1996 Saturn is an sl sl1 or an sl2?
It should be on the vehicle registration. You can also open the hood and look at the engine. If it says, "Twin Cam" or something like that, it is an SL2. Also, if the plug wires go in the top, it's an SL2.. If they go in the front at an angle, then it's and SL1. An SL doesn't have power steering. The pump will be noticeably absent. also a good way to tell is if the bumpers and door handles are the same color as the car or not. If they are it is a SL2, if not and SL1. Another way would be if there is a reflector going across the whole length of the trunk, so as that it looks like the tail lights go all the away across. Sl2's have that, SL1's dont.
