Yes, but is may require the use of the intake and exhaust manifolds from your 1997 engine. The headers to be reused will need to be milled flat by a machine shop to ensure they are flat and will seal properly. I have a 1994 SC2 running a 1998 DOHC engine from a wrecked SL2, runs like a champ, but I did have to reuse my 1994 manifolds. Good Luck

Does your 1997 have good computer chip. If not then its not practical to attempt. I have been trying to replace a 1999 engine with a 2002 engine because they were both a 1.9 Sohc SC Saturn. However, after purchasing the 1999 car I discovered the computer had been stolen. I tought well i would just replace the computer. On the left side of the 1.9 engine is the temp sensior for the 1997 it has two pronged plug on the back of it. The plug snaps in but you will need to gently unplug it then unscrew it from the engine. the thing is after you change it the computer will need to be reset after instillation of new one.
