1998 Chevy Corvette check engine light came on once and then went out for a couple of trips then the check engine light returned and this time never went out What could be the problem?

There are pages and pages of things that can cause a check engine light. You need to have it checked with a scantool. Then the code can be diagnosed and repaired.
