It strikes me you have 2, probably unrelated problems:

• The check engine light - trying to let you know about some strange readings the computer has received from the sensors.
  
  
• A transmission problem - sounds like it's slipping.
  Easiest thing to check first is if the Transmission Fluid is okay

The key to diagnosing the *source of the problem* is to get the codes read.

The next most critical step is to research the codes - the codes are trying to tell about some strange readings the computer received. It the strange reading - for example "lean condition" bank1 - that will guide you to a true FIX.

NOTE: don't go out and replace any sensors until you're confident the sensor has really truly *failed*
