Then it is obvious the gas cap was not the problem. You need to have the codes read and see what code you are getting. Use that code to help diagnosis the problem.
My 1999 deville has the same problem.but i know i need a new fuel filler neck(wondering if that could be the problem)?
i have replaced the plugs and wires and my service engine light comes again in 2004 land rover discovery
turn off engine, and start again
If you search around I have found some more complicated answers, something a good mechanic could tell you about. I, however, just put premium in mine and she is running great again!
If you are referring to the Service Engine light it means that there is scheduled maintenance due. Ignore it at your own risk. If you are referring to the Check Engine light it means that there is a problem with the emissions controls. Again, ignore this at your own risk.
until code is set again
You will have to have a engine scanner to do that. But something made it come on and if you did not fix the problem it will just come back on again. HAVE ENGINE SCANED SOME PARTS STORES WILL DO IT FOR FREE.
unless the battery has been disconnected, a history of previous codes is retained in memory and you will be able to tell why your service engine light was on earlier. disconnecting the battery erases all codes - you would have to wait until service engine light comes on again to read any recent codes. good luck!
My service engine light came on at 95,000 miles. A simple tune-up, plugs, ect... and it ran like new again. You might find an auto parts store, like Auto Zone, that can check the engines computer for free.
you don't Not unless you really know what your doing. You would have to pull your engine out to replace both heads. To have a mechanic do it, it would cost upwards of 1,400 to 3,000 dollars because of the work and how long it takes to pull An engine out and replace the heads and put it back together and into the car again I suggest you start saving up ;)
NEED MORE INFORMATION : Like the year, engine size and model. PLEASE ask your question again with that info. THANK YOU. Is the check engine / service engine soon light on ? If it is then have the engine scanned with an engine scanner and you may find the problem. There is all kinds of things that can cause that problem and more info would help us answer your question.
You can disconnect the battery for about 5 minutes and this will clear the check engine codes stored in the computer. If the problem that caused the code has not been repaired the check engine code will just happen again. The only way to get the check engine light to not be on is to repair the problem then clear the codes.
Fill radiator to 1" from top-run engne to normal operating temperature and carefully check again
