Your phone may be dysfunctional, and need to be replaced. The battery is usually the main problem with this, and can be purchased at a battery store, or Verizon store.
It just happened to me a couple days ago..I found that my alternator belt broke and had to be replaced.
batteries are stored energy, nothing should have happened. They say to disconnect the negative terminal for safety reasons.
have the cables been checked. same happened to my 87 same problem found it was the orgnial cables needed to be replaced.
To make the battery % indicator show up " just alongside and to the left of the standard battery indicator " just go to Settings > General > Usage " and toggle the Battery Percentage setting to On.
You'll loose your BIOS settings and the computer won't be able to recognize some of the settings. If the battery goes dead, replace the battery, enter the BIOS settings and load the default, then do whatever is necessary under YOUR BIOS to recognize your hardware, then save the settings.
I have that problem check the water level of your battery, i find if i top up battery water, the flashing stops.

Chances are that the CMOS Battery on the motherboard is dead and needs to be replaced. Without this battery, the computer can not remember the CMOS settings when the power is turned off.
If the CMOS battery dies you lose the settings that are held in the BIOS (Basic Input Output System). These include settings such as date/time, boot order,etc.
