yes, they are the same frame except for neck rake.
looking underneath the bike; it is the plug on the shifter side of the bike.
It is actually FXDL. Motor Vehicle Departments shorten it to FDL for some reason. A FXDL is a Dyna Low Rider. I bought a 1994 FXDL today.

I have a sportster and it doesn't have a drain plug. It has a drain hose that is located under the engine and is connected to the rear pipe mount on a stud with a small hose clamp. Loosen the hose clamp and just pull the hose off the stud and the oil will drain. Don't forget when replacing the oil to put about 4 oz into the filter before putting it on and make sure the oil starts to come out of the drain hose before reconnecting it to the stud or the oil will get vacumed similar to vapor lock. Hope this helps.

i have an 08 fxdl and my heavy breather leaks out too. people tell me the orings aren't strong enough to keep the oil from leaking due to the amount of heat. its darn annoying if you ask me! I'm coming to the conclusion that its poor design!
