If it is anything like the 2002 escape then it is easy.
Put on your parking break. Locate the transmission from underneath the engine. Mine is silver in color. There is a plug that needs to be removed. On mine the plug fitting uses a ratchet WITHOUT a sprocket on the end. Unscrew that plug and drain out the fluid. Not very much fluid came out of mine. Screw the plug back in and measure the amount of fluid that came out. Add that same amount of new fluid through the dipstick hole of the transmission. This under the hood of course. Start the truck and shift through the all gears a few times while it is running.
That's it. You could probably repeat this process 2 or 3 times if you want to try and get all the old fluid out. Have fun.

as much as it can after you let the access fluid out

The power steering fluid for it is actually the transmission fluid. It should be Mercron. Is this suposed to go in the power steering chamber or the transmission chamber to work. The fluid in my 2006 Ford Escape XLT steering fluid tank is black.
