Mazda6 noiseThe noise from the engine, which really came from the exhaust flange with the two springs, was very annoying. But I have fixed it by spraying from down with lubricant tri-flow with Teflon, after a week the noise was gone. (Be careful for fire, wait before starting)
Other says:
Hey Guys,
It's not a rattle, its like a whistling noise, and it gets louder as the car gets hotter.
This noise has to do with the exhaust flange, when you hear the noise it sounds like there is something wrong with the engine. Mazda are fully aware of the problem. If i didn't know about this and i was buying my car second hand, i would think that there is something wrong with the car and i wouldn't consider buying for that reason.
If your friends has one that doesnt make this noise i would be happy to swap my car with them. My partners 1991 VN Commodore sounds better than my car.
Garry and Warren Smith Mazda (Mulgrave, Victoria) fix my exhaust flange squeeking noise @ 40,000km service six months ago. I just completed my 50,000km service today and the noise hasn't returned, so I'll keep my fingers cross.
This whistling sound should only be heard whilst the car is warm and at a standstill. I do not know of anyone who can hear the exhaust flange noise whilst the car is moving.
Perhaps you have found yet another problem with these cars!
My car had the same issue. It does emanate from the join directly in front of the catalyst, where the exhaust manifold meets up.
There is a "fix", or a replacement part, that will reduce the squeaking noise, subjectively, by about 30-40%. It's a ring seal, part number L3A140581.
I had this fitted at the 10000 kay service. The next afternoon, the flange was wailing like a banshee, it really was that loud. I took the car back to my servicing/selling dealer, they removed the flange, applied a graphite paste (akin to no-seize), and that reduced the noise greatly.
Like I said before, it, subjectively, reduces the noise by 30-40%.
My advice to all of you that have this noise, is to definitely get the new ring seal, but make sure that a graphite paste(no seize) is applied when fitting. It's all under warranty.
And yes, it's the same noise I had on a 2005 Mazda 6 2 litre TS hatch I had in England. Same fix , however.
Just wanted to give you all an update as to what Mazda are now doing to stop this noise.
My car was purchased in May 06 and has been back to the dealership 4 times to have this problem fixed, but it keeps on returning no matter what they try to do to fix it.
What they are doing now is changing the gasket, spring and converter. The part numbers are L3A140581, BP4740582 and L3A42055XB.
Will let you know if this latest fix finally addresses the issue.
my hatch has rattled worse since I first mentioned it to them. I think they make it worse each time they touch it.
There are several things that can cause a clanging noise on your 2004 Toyota. A loose exhaust pipe is the most common cause.
idk exact specifics, but after installing mine there is a definite notice in increased hp. i strongly suggest the cold air intake.
