Lots of things can cause this. The first thing to check is to see if you have voltage going to the coil in the differential. Be sure to check this while the key is on, and the unit is in a forward gear, and be sure to check for voltage and ground. If both are present, then common causes are warped armature plate or broken roll-cage inside the front diff.
