In any medical encyclopedia, and on the Xanax Brand Rx leaflet, reads that people with true Panic disorder require dosages ranging normally around 6-10+mg/day, while people with Anxiety Disorder require less, around 1-4mg Max. So, No 8mg is not too much if you need it and have a doctor agreeing with you and willing to prescribe you that dosage.
Also, many people know that properly managed, Xanax can be used for years, sometimes endlessly. Its very safe when used properly. As long as your not a little kid, trying to play doctor!
