Battery is dead?
i had this happen once on an 03 dodge minivan. the alternator went bad and the battery was going dead but had enough power to get the engine started. once i replaced the alternator and charged the battery the gauges worked again. good luck!
It sounds like you have a break in the wire which connects your alternator to your battery, get it checked out.
one is most places test for free. but the easy at home way to check is get your car jump started if its not starting on its own. after its running, pull the negative off the battery taking special car not to arc your wrench on anything. if its keeps running, alternator is good. if it dies, get it replaced. if the alternator is bad, it may have killed the battery, so get it tested and replaced if needed.
Dashboard Confessional started out in 1999, and, to present, is still together.
Bad starter? Bad neutral switch? ignition switch?
The best I can recommend is to check the alternator. This did happen to me on another car. When I replaced the alternator it started working fine again and now have 164000mi on it when it happened at 103000mi.
The alternator is not charging the battery, therefore, the coil is getting it's charge only from the battery.
Yes, as long as the engine is running, so is the alternator. The alternator is actually what keeps the car battery charged.
Defective alternator or broken alternator belt.
bad electrical connection.some where.
This is not a battery problem. Your charging system, the alternator, is not putting out enough juice to charge the battery until you reach 4000 rpm. Have the alternator and charging system checked.
If the alternator is working properly then it should go off onec the engine has started. If it does not then you probably have afaulty alternator.
