There are pages and pages of things that can cause a check engine light. You need to have it checked with a scantool. Then the code can be diagnosed and repaired.
Your hot exhaust is cooling down and the metal is making a ping sound, chances are though, that your exhaust is possibly getting too hot, or has some loose components inside or bolted to it. If your exhaust rattles at all, you may need to replace the muffler, and if you car has a trouble code related to misfire, or catalytic converter there may be too much fuel in the exhaust and is too hot.
yes, if the trans fluid is hitting the exhaust, but not out of the pipes coming from the outside of the pipes.
Buiy a universal hanger and install to hold exhaust system in desired location Buy a universal hanger and install to hold exhaust in desired location
your timing can not be right
there are more..but what i can think of at the moment would b a hole in the exhaust,, or perhaps the exhaust breaking off from the manifold....worn cv joints, fan out of balance and hitting against sumthing
Something loose? Exhaust pipe rattling/hitting on something? You'll have search it out.
The check engine light will blink when you're engine is misfiring. The smell from the cat is raw(unburned gas) hitting it....which can cause some pretty bad smells and also ruin your cat. Sounds like you need some plugs and wires.
Is the oil leaking and hitting exhaust? if so it is the o-ring in the oil pump. Subaru is known for that!
if it is an automatic, clutches are are hitting to hard. check the torque converter switch. tcc could be bad!!
It will not close quickly or completely, on intake it will cause loss of compression and backfiring, on exhaust also loss of compression. There may also be some noise from piston hitting valve, and possible damage.
this is a tough one and doesnt have a definite answer. my first answer would have been spark, but if you've replaced most of the ignition, that shouldn't be a problem. it may still be the plugs or the wires, which you didn't specify replacing. i would first test spark on all 4 cylinders with a spark tester. you can get them from most auto parts stores and they can tell you how to use them, or you can see my other answer to someone's question about replacing plugs & wires to fix ignition problems. my second answer would be compression. try testing your compression on all 4 cylinders. you can usually rent or do loan-a-tool thru autozone or advance/schucks/kragen auto parts to get off cheaply on doing this. you may find that 2 or more don't have adequate compression for proper firing. third would be fuel. if your smell a strong fuel odor, it may be that your injectors are cracked or not properly sealed, or the wires or connectors are bad and the injectors aren't functioning at all( = no fuel). another possibility (and a relatively remote one) is that your catalytic converter has melted or broken components inside and is restricting exhaust flow, causing a backflow or incomplete exhaustion of the cylinders, resulting in a misfire (another symptom of this may be that the misfiring cylinders are not always the same ones). try hitting your catalytic converter gently with a fist. if you hear a rattling inside the cat., i would take it to an exhaust shop and have it looked at or replaced. hope it helps!
This is a possible cause: Halfway through the exhaust system you have a "catalytic converter". The converter has a heat shield over it. It's just a piece of thin metal that is not absolutely necessary to the operation of your vehicle. They usually rust out where they are connected to the converter. Then when you accelerate, it rattles like a piece of light metal hitting heavier metal. You can spend a lot to have the shield replaced (Waste of money)or you just crawl under the vehicle and bend the shield back and forth until it breaks off. Even most mechanics do this. The whole purpose of the shield is to try and deflect some of the heat from the converter...ie...when you drive into a pile of leaves or really tall grass, the converter won't ignite the leaves.(converters get very hot) The shields are pretty useless and I think they were designed to make us crazy once they get rusty!! Hope this helps!AnswerThe above answer sounds right, but on my 97 explorer V8 the same rattling ocurrs when accelrating, especcialy when the engine is cold, due to a faulty exuast flange coming off the engine`s right manifold.this part can be seen by looking behind and near the top of the right front tire.To verify if this is the problem, start the truck when the engine is cold, and the hood open, and the truck in park, have someone step on the accelerator while you lisen to the engine, if the rattling sounds like its its coming from the right side of the engine , that's the problem.
