If you are saying that at highway speeds it is running at 40 degrees celcius (and it isn't extremely cold out), I would say that your thermostat is sticking open. I know you put a new one in, but every now and again a new thermostat will either stick open or shut. If you do the work yourself, what you can do to test the thermostat is to remove it and put it in a pot of boiling water, you should see it open up. Now remove it from the water and watch it, it should close up in a short amount of time, if it doesn't you need a new thermostat. If it is working, I suggest making sure that the cooling system is completely full with no air in the system. If this doesn't work, you might want an expert to take a look at it. Hayden
check or replace thermostat
I have a 2001 Dodge 3500 that was not getting up to operating temperature. I changed the thermostat and that fixed it. I guess the thermostat was stuck open.
im having the same problem with my 1994 I've replaced the heater core, thermostat, radiator,i checked the coolant, and it's not over heating or nothing and still no heat lol
Although I'm not familiar with a 2002, you should find the thermostat by following the upper radiator hose to the engine. Usually the easiest route from the left side to the block. Not 100% sure, but if you have a 2.2L, that's how mine was. They haven't changed much.
have never changed a thermostat on mine. but when we put in the new motor we noticed it was located on the back side of the motor below the exhaust but above the oil pan. follow the 2in pipe that is bolted to the oil pan to the left side/back of the motor
your heater core might be plugged(probable), or thermostat may not be opening all the way
have you changed the battery in the thermostat?
If it's overheating, it cold be thermostat, radiator or possibly other problems. If it's not overheating it could be the coolant level sensor.
You may have the thermostat in backwards. The spring side of the thermostat faces into the engine.
