Open differential unless you ordered it from the factory.
The drive shafts connect the transfer case and differentials.
The transfer case, transfers power from the transmission to the front and rear differentials.
The front axle did not have limited slip from the factory.
transmission
They're often neglected when it comes to service, for one.
The front and rear axles are differentials.
You have broken a CVD or try locking your differentials. I doubt it is the differentials you Amy want to clean it and reoil it to see what happens another weakness i have found is the small bevel gears inside the differentials have a tendancy to lose a tooth or two this also causes the diff to lock one wheel or just not work at all leaving it front wheel drive only
The differential transfers power from the transmission/driveshaftto the wheels/axles. If the car is rear or front wheeldrive ithas one on that axle. If the vehicle is all wheel drive it usually has one in the center on the car to transfer power front/rear. Some differentials are open and some are limited slip. Limited slip units are usually used in performance cars to get as much traction as possible.
if 4x2 only 1 differential which is the pumpkin between your rear axle, if 4x4, there will be a transfer case at the front of the vehicle coming off of the transmission going to front drive shaft and front differential.
The Transaxle refers to the combination of transmission and differential that provides power transmission in all modern front wheel drive vehicles, as well as front power in AWD (not 4WD) vehicles, as opposed to the separate transmissions and differentials that are generally used on rear drive vehicles.
On part time 4 wheel drive vehicles, there are quick turn locking mechanisms on the front axles that either egage or disengage the wheels to the front drive shafts coming out of the front differentials. Unlocking them helps save on gas as well as wear and tear on mechanicle parts by letting the front wheels spin freely when not using four wheel drive. The transfer case diengages the other end of the drive train from the front end.
The front drive shaft did not have any grease zerks from the factory.
