It depends on what options the 98 and 97 have. If you get the vin # on both cars and call BMW they can tell you for sure if it will fit.
I haven a 98 740il bmw and just got a Diagnostic. And a code came up that the tech didn't know which was p01585...do anyone what it mean?
The transmission dipstick in a 98 BMW 528i is on the driver's side of the transmission pan. Make sure you are parked in a level spot before you check it.
you might need a thermastat. my 98 was doing the same thing. its easy and cheap to replace.
On the back of the housing

BMW always recommends using 98 RON petrol (gas). Which is premium unleaded.
