I believe this has to do with the internal process of the 4t65e transmission on your car. The actions from neutral to drive are not the same as from drive or neutral to reverse. I cannot remember the specifics, but it is a common complaint that may or may not warrant repair or servicing of the bands or shift forks. My 97 grand prix has no more reverse gear thanks to a broken shift fork made from a Mexican plant. (damn you NAFTA!) The repair and or replacement cost far exceeds my cars used value, so i drive in forward everywhere i go. This however, will eventually lead to failure of the first and second gears' fork as well. At 267,988 miles with no servicing other than a filter change, i could care less. It's done a fine job otherwise. Also, check the motor mounts by opening the hood and having a friend watch the engine while shifting through the gears (place e-brake on) . If there is excessive movement they may need repair or tightening for the time being. Good luck.
