98 Saturn sl1 revs 3500rpm at startup starts to smoke then idles back to normal smoke clears egr cleaned tps replaced this helped 2 days but started once again still no codes any suggestios?

I have a similar problem (without the smoke), and I just found out that theres a problem with my Evaporative Emission Control System (EECS). I did the same as you, Cleaned EGR, Replaced TPS - and still the same problem. If you look on top of the throttle body, theres a black vacuum connector with 2 or 3 hoses that run behind and under the intake manifold (2 on mine, 97 sl1). If you pry that off, place your finger over the holes on the Throttle body, and I imagine your car would start fine (like mine) and idle normally. If this is the case, there is a problem with the Purge Control Solenoid...it dosent hold a vacuum. According to the haynes manual "It doesnt hold a vacuum and needs to be replaced." I just need to figure out how to replace it now...since its under the intake manifold its really hard to get to.

The ac could be causing the problem. Turn the ac off, and watch the compressor clutch to see if it is not engaged. If it is then the compressor or clutch could be bogging the engine down.
