It could be that while the camshaft is turning, the timing very well might have jumped. I have seen this many times before, especially with older vehicles. When the timing belt tensioner gets worn out, the belt can (especially at highway speeds) jump, thus resulting in a situation where the vehicle has spark, fuel pressure, and the camshaft it turning. The best way to determine if this is the problem is to have an engine compression check performed on the vehicle. Likely one or more cylinders will have little or no compression.
