No. A protein is defined by its function, as much as its structure. A chain of two amino acids would have no protein-like functions. The smallest known protein is a chain of 20 amino acids, but most have many more, and sometimes consist of multiple chains of amino acids.
This would be called a protein if there are many amino acids chained together.

Amino acids all contain the carboxyl group (-CO2H), which is acidic. If named by IUPAC nomenclature they would be referred to as acids as well. For example glycine, the simplest amino acid, would be 2-aminoethanoic acid.

This would be the function of the ribosomes. The ribosome assembles amino acids into proteins. Ribosomes are small structures made of ribosomal RNA (rRNA) and protein. (RNA is a molecule similar in structure to DNA.) When cells need to make proteins, they copy the instructions for the protein from the DNA of the cell by making a molecule of messenger RNA (mRNA). The mRNA travels to the ribosomes in the cytoplasm of the cell. Another type of RNA molecule, called transfer RNA (tRNA) brings amino acids to the ribosome. The tRNA molecules decode the mRNA by binding to it, so that the tRNAs bring in the correct amino acids according to the instructions in the mRNA. The ribosome helps keep this whole process organized and helps form the bonds between the amino acids to create a chain of amino acids. A chain of amino acids is called a polypeptide chain. Polypeptide chains fold up to form proteins.
If the protein has a single chain of amino acids (known as a polypeptide chain), e.g. human growth hormone, then the term would be gene. A gene can be defined as a segment of DNA that codes for a polypeptide chain (or for a molecule of RNA, such as a molecule of transfer RNA or ribosomal RNA).If the protein has more than one chain, and the chains have different sequences of amino acids, then the code is carried in more than one gene: "one gene, one polypeptide".The nucleotide sequence that codes for just one of the amino acids in a chain is called a codon, and it consists of three adjacent nucleotides, often written just as the bases, because these are the only parts that differ between nucleotides. An example of a codon is CCA.
Assuming that the chain is only read in one direction, the maximum is 12. It may be as low as zero if the correct sequences for gene expression are not present.
